20 Things That Are More Fun Than Sugar

20 Things That Are More Fun Than Sugar

Good Morning Peaches!

And Happy Halloween!!! Here are my little pumpkin heads.

I mean, I can’t stand the cuteness!!!!

If you missed Saturday’s kinda angry post, you know that instead of diving into my children’s Halloween candy this year, I have quit sugar all together. For now, I am the only one quitting sugar in my household. Someone has to be the pioneer I guess.

I feel exactly the way I did back when I quit smoking (for the record, that was a LONG time ago). I don’t even crave sugar anymore. I only have it when I think I am supposed to, like when I have a cheat meal, or when it is given to me. BUT once I have a little bit, it’s over, I have no control. It’s not one cookie, it’s 15. It’s not a scoop of ice cream, it’s the whole pint. Or maybe it was a half gallon. I mean who remembers these things? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Sugar is the ONLY food that I have absolutely no self control with. I do not deprive myself, I eat a very wholesome diet and do not cut calories. It’s not like my body s binging from deprivation. So I am going ahead and saying “Sugar, it’s not me it’s you. We don’t work well as a couple. I’m leaving you.”

Since quitting, many thoughts have been bouncing around in my mind. What do I say when people ask me why I’m not eating it? What do I do at holidays? At birthday parties? On date nights? What about my beloved cheat meals?

To the first question, I have just decided to be honest and say that I can’t handle sugar so I do not eat it. To answer what I will do on holidays/birthdays/date nights/cheat meals, I have made a list of 20 things that are as much fun or even more fun than eating junk! Here it is!

  1. Glad to hear you’re giving up the junk food/sweets. You’ll be better for it.

And here are a few ideas to your question: “What is something that you could do instead of eating junk?”

    1) Go for a run/walk.
    2) lift weights
    3) learn a new skill
    4) take an online course
    5) do a puzzle
    6) drink a glass of water.
    7) mow the lawn/yard work
    8) write a blog post!

    ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you Leo!!! I feel so great since quitting! I can’t think of how to describe it. Liberated maybe? Just like I finally did something I should have done a long time ago.
Hey! I love those! Blog. Why didn’t I think of that? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Brilliant!

  2. Happy Halloween! Oh my gosh, those 2 children are so adorable in their costumes. Since I also need to quit sugar, I decided not to participate in Halloween (we don’t get many kids anymore anyway), instead I went to the gym. This way there is no leftover halloween candies in my house. But I know that there will be candies at work tomorrow, so I need to stick to my resolve. I agree, it’s best to be honest and just say my body doesn’t handle sugar well. I love all the ideas on what else we can do instead of eating sugar. I will add a few more.

    1. Go to a Zumba class
    2. Phone a friend
    3. More shopping
    4. Read a book
    5. Try a new recipe (sugar-free of course)

    1. Happy Halloween Christine!! Thank you! Way to go! I wouldn’t participate either if I didn’t have trick or treaters (or as Ryan calls them “Halloweeners” lol). I’m so glad we did this because I wasn’t even tempted by the candy because I quit! I saw the Reese’s which would be my biggest temptation but didn’t even think consider having one because it really isn’t worth it for me.
Way to go Christine!!! Tomorrow starts your month. You can do it!! You will feel so good!
Great swaps! Haha, I love “more shopping”๐Ÿ˜‚ Always a good one.
