Good Morning Friends!

How is your November starting out? Good I hope! We celebrated Ryan’s birthday yesterday and I still managed to stay on track and sugarless. High five! His party isn’t until Saturday so we just spent the day playing with all his new birthday stuff and then went to Chiles so that he could get his beloved chicken fingers for dinner haha. I found it easy to stay sugarless at Chiles. I just got a 6 oz steak with NO SAUCE (there’s always sugar in any sauce) and an additional side of broccoli instead of the potato. πŸ™‚



21 Day JUMP!


As of tomorrow , November 3rd, there are 21 days until Thanksgiving. I have been a Beachbody coach for a few months now and still have yet to dive into to all there is to do as one! That is mostly because I have been very pregnant and then with newborn, to say life has been a whirlwind lately is an understatement. Although I have enjoyed their Counrty Heat program and my beloved Shakeology (which is sugarless by the way), Anna is now 7 weeks old and I am finally ready to kick things into high gear!

Beachbody has this program called The 21 Day Fix. It is a 21 day program with 6 different workouts, a meal plan, and claims that you can lose up to 15 pounds in 21 days. I have been wanting to give it a shot and had planned to begin on November 9th and end the day before Thanksgiving……. notice the problem there?

My new mom brain told me Thanksgiving was on the 30th haha. It is actually the 24th. Yesterday I realized that if I am going to do The 21 Day Fix this month it will have to start not on the 9th…… but on Thursday! Oh no! That’s this week!!! Am I ready? Can I do this?

I have just decided to jump in with both eyes closed and do it! I am a planner. I LOVE everything about planning right down to the pencil and decorative notebook. But sometimes, you just have to jump in to whatever it is without overthinking. I am taking today to get geared up Β and prepared and then jumping into The 21 Day Fix tomorrow morning!

    I have definitely jumped into some things (ketogenic diet/LCHF being one of them). I went from eating carbs to throwing them all out and declaring we were going to do bacon eggs and real meats and minimal veggies (to my husband’s delight) about 5-6 weeks ago. So far I have lost 21 lbs, and I feel amazing.

    I also jumped head first into my career. One day in college I decided I don’t want to be a journalist, I want to be a doctor… And here I am lol πŸ™‚ Sometimes, it totally works out!!

    I’ve looked at those books (my sister in law has them) and they look really good! I admit I took some pictures of recipes that looked really appealing. I wonder how LCHF (low carb high fat) friendly they are?

    1. Wow you have done really well with LCHF. I also had some success over the summer and lost 15 pounds. Then I went on vacation in September and I haven’t been able to really get back into it, but I am working on it. I was thinking about doing a really low carb kick-start for 3 days to try and get into ketosis more quickly. I will check out your blog Dr. Beth.

      1. Christine, well you could join No Net November with me and my friends! (there’s no official thing to join, it’s just a self-challenge) Total carbs 25 or less every day this month. It helps push you into ketosis, and it has to be healthier for you because there is no room for all the artificial sweeteners (which usually have zero net carbs but 3 or more total carbs)!

        Good luck getting back on board! And stay in touch! I think support helps more than anything!

    2. Hey! Thank you Dr. Beth! Wow you have jumped into some really exciting stuff!!! I love that you just up and decided to be a doctor!! Haha that’s amazing!
      I absolutely LOVE the ketogenic diet. I am still finding the right “prescription” for myself as far as carbs go. Twice now, I have done the LCHF diet and feel AMAZING for three whole months and then both times after 3 months ended up with insomnia, depression, and weight gain! But I KNOW that done right, LCHF is the best way to eat. I am so glad you are loving it! Keep us posted on how you are doing with it. I found that as a woman, I have to have a little carbs now and then to keep those weird side effects from happening. Have you experienced this yet?

      1. which “weird side effects” do you mean? So far, I think my worst side effect is that I can get really really grouchy. Most of the time, I am super bubbly and happy, and then it will swing into crankyketobeth and it’s not fun at all (for anyone!). I usually just try to go take a nap. lol

        I am under 25 total carbs right now. Only for one month because I think my total carbs used to be somewhere nearer to 35 (artificial sweeteners/sf candy). This has to be better for me, without all the chemicals, right?

        I haven’t had any weight gain yet, but I have slowed way down from initially… which I expected, but still frustrates me! LOL I love instant gratification as much as the next gal!

        I would argue it really helps me sleep so much better… but when I have to work nights and sleep during the day, it tears me up. I am NOT good at sleeping during the day even with melatonin now. It’s disappointing.

      2. For some reason both times that I have done the LCHF diet it works amaing well for 3 months and then all of a sudden I have insomnia and weight gain! It happened both times! I don’t know what it is about the 3 month mark. But now basically I eat low carb for several days and then eat some carbs one day and then continue low carb. This has worked extremely well. But don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the LCHF diet!!! For some reason I just needed more carbs and tend to have an all or nothing personality making it difficult to add them without going overboard.
        Keep up the good keto work and keep us posted on your progress!

      3. That’s interesting… I hope I don’t start gaining. I will really freak out! lol I did increase my calories a little bit lately, was at 1200 but am aiming more for 13-1400 calories, which will give me some wiggle room to adjust when I do slow down… I’ll definitely keep you posted on my blog!!! πŸ™‚

  2. Re: 21-day fix. I’m sure it will work, you can lose 15 lbs in 21 days, HOWEVER:

    Do you have any concerns about how helpful such a program actually is to someone’s health, given that the majority of weight lost in a short period of time is going to be water? Does it come with a caveat about that and/or a suggestion on long term health?

    I can see how a quick burst of weight loss could galvanize someone to continue on the path to weight-loss, but I can also see how they could get trapped in a series of “fixes” which just cycle water weight on and off.

    1. Hey there! For sure. And that actually that is the way they do it! You do “rounds” of the 21 Day Fix with breaks in between. It gives instructions on how to maintain in between the rounds.
      I can totally see how someone might get sucked in like what you are talking about. That’s why I just share my experiences on here with all the different diets and such. Just seeing what works and what doesn’t and telling everyone else!
      As for THIS program, I know that the “upto 15 pounds” is exactly that. “Upto”. The 15 pounds is for someone brand new to clean eating and exercise and yes a lot of it is water. I do not expect to lose 15 pounds because the meal plan is pretty much how I eat anyway. BUT I did just have a baby 7 weeks ago so I am so excited for these workouts! I am so ready for higher intensity!

  3. Why not give it a try Angela, what have you got to lose? (ha, ha) I am always skeptical when a diet claims a large amount of weight loss in a short time. For me, 1-2 pounds per week is a healthy and more sustainable loss. I look forward to hearing about your experience with the 21-day fix. I have seen the commercials on TV and wonder if it really works.

    Glad to see you blogging more often and always love your pictures. Ryan is so cute in his little house.

    1. Haha for sure. I’m just really excited about the workouts. After this pregnancy plus the recovery time, I am SO READY for higher intensity stuff!
      I know the 15 pounds is for people who have never done this kinda thing. It’s the same thing with any new eating style, if you have never done anything like that before of course you are going to have drastic results in the beginning. But hey, if it gets people eating clean and exercising….
      Speaking of 1-2 pounds a week. I find that that is not linear! Do yo? This baby weight seems to be coming off like this-
      nothing for a week, nothing for a week, 5 pounds!, nothing for a week…. haha.
      Oh well, as long as it comes off that’s all that matters. But I was so stuck on losing at least 2 pounds a week and getting frustrated.
