Just like that it was already time for another grocery trip.

I am sore today. But that’s ok! Today marks one week down in The Master’s Hammer and Chisel. This morning’s workout was Total Body Hammer. In this workout, you use heavier weights and do a set of 10, 8, and 6 reps for each exercise. All I could think about was how much I could have used this program when I was a beginner in the gym. I had gone to a gym for a while, but didn’t learn my way around the weight room until my ex-husband who was into bodybuilding showed me what to do. Before then, I would hang out in the cardio section, then every now and then make my way over to the machines. I only used machines because they had a diagram of how to use them. I almost never messed with free weights because 1) I didn’t know what to do with them and 2) I thought that section was only for bodybuilders and I didn’t belong.

Well let me tell you gym going ladies, you DO belong in the free weight section! And you need to be over there as well! You may not be thinking about it now, but you will when you get to be 34 like me. Not that 34 is old by any means, it’s just funny how when I was 14 I didn’t think too much about 30 being just 16 years away, but at 34 it has definitely crossed my mind that 50 is! Haha! But muscle is our greatest weapon in winning the aging battle. Is aging a bad thing? Heck no! I know for me, the 20’s were for the birds. I was so glad when I turned 3o and could leave them in the dust! But I do know most of us want to age well. Muscle mass is what keeps you moving, keeps your back straight and tall, and believe it or not, keeps you looking more youthful because it releases human growth hormone.

But why free weights instead of machines? Because free weights utilize 90% of your muscle when the machines only utilize 20%. So see, YOU belong in the free weight section!!!

Ok so why am I saying all this when I don’t even go to a gym? Adding onto what I said in the beginning of this post, when I was the beginner in the gym not knowing what to do with a free weight, THIS program would have been so helpful! The exercises that I have been doing in The Master’s Hammer and Chisel are real bodybuilding moves yall. As you know, now I DO know what I am doing in the weight room and I could take any one of these workouts that I have done so far in Hammer or Chisel and do them in a gym weight room and no one would blink an eye. So for the one like me back then that doesn’t know what they are doing or where to begin and can’t afford a trainer to tell them, you could actually learn these workouts in the privacy of your own home and then take them confidently into your gym weight room. For real, I’m not trying to sell you something I’m just giving you good advice. This is the only home workout that I have ever done that is equal to an advanced gym workout and it’s a great way to learn how to build your body.

So needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed this morning’s Total Body Hammer. ๐Ÿ™‚

What I Ate Today!

I know, I know. Your thinking “Angela, you eat the most amazing food! Won’t you share the recipes?”

Of course I will Peaches. Rest assured. In fact, I will share them all right here.

Breakfast: Get bowl, put some Greek yogurt into it. Put 1 scoop of Vanilla Shakeology into the bowl with the yogurt. Stir and enjoy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Snack: Put some water in a pot and heat to boiling. Boil eggs in their shell for 10 minutes. Peel and eat!

Lunch: Put some more Greek yogurt into a bowl, take same scoop from Shakeology bag and scoop out some almonds instead. Walla.

Dinner: Put a little water and some broccoli in a pot and cover. When the water starts to boil, turn off heat, let sit 10 minutes. Heat up whatever meat you had last night in the microwave. Put both of these items into a bowl and top with avocado oil and sea salt. Enjoy!

I know that last one got a little complicated but practice makes perfect! Just keep trying and you will get it.

Hello again!

It’s already Day 6 in The Master’s Hammer and Chisel! Since I originally thought I was just going to do the 30 day Chisel program, my Day 1 was Chisel Endurance which was supposed to be today in the 60 day program that I decided to do instead. So I did the workout that is supposed to be Chisel Day 1 today, Chisel Balance. ๐Ÿ™‚ Haha! Wow, I’m sure that made absolutely no sense. If you missed the post where I changed my mind, it’s here.ย ย  If you couldn’t care less about what I just wrote and just want the rundown of Chisel Balance, please proceed to the next paragraph. The Master’s Hammer and Chisel: Chisel Balance

Oh Chisel Balance, how deceiving is your name. When I read the name Chisel Balance, the first thing that popped into my mind was all of my attempts to master the balance moves in yoga………. and yes, they were in fact onlyย attempts. ย I have no balance. If you are thinking about giving this workout a try, let me just save you the rude awakening by telling you that this workout is absolutely nothing close to yoga haha. The “balance” that they speak of is performing many weightlifting reps…….. on one foot. Or one arm. You are balancing while weightlifting. Yes it burns, BUT yes you will be so proud of yourself when you are done!!!

It was almost 40 minutes which is the longest workout that I have done so far in the program. I keep saying this, but it really does go by fast because you are only doing a few sets of each exercise.

Even though this workout was very challenging, it is actually my favorite one so far. It feels good to work hard, and some of the exercises in the workout like pistol squats and Bulgarian split squats I rarely did when I was actually in the gym because they were too challenging. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ It just goes to show that even though we may not want to admit it, it does us a lot of good to have someone push us. Even if it’s a fitness instructor on a DVD.

Woops! Left off the last meal of 5 oz ground turkey and mustard! Had that too. ๐Ÿ™‚

I feel MUCH better now that I figured out the actual amount of calories that I should be consuming each day. I am already down another pound so I feel like I am on the right track. Losing weight can be a challenge, but I refuse for it to be torturous. If you are doing a meal plan or even My Fitness Pal and are starving all day, it’s ok to adjust! Remember that these fitness tools are not fail proof. They do not really know you or your body makeup so use your head in addition to the tool. And or course, always be honest with yourself. ๐Ÿ™‚

One Change Challenge!

One Change Challenge!

Good morning!

I LOVE MONDAYS! I love new beginnings! Yeeeeeeeeee!

Now that I am no longer housing a small being and I am back to my blogging groove, anyone in the mood for a challenge? Last year’s real food challenge was so fun! You all eat the most exciting stuff!

One Change Challenge!

“Smile and hold up one finger.” ….. seemed like a simple request.

I thought maybe we could do a 7 day challenge where we all make one change that we have been wanting to make for a while. Just one. And make it kind of a big one. It can be anything. The reason I was thinking of this is because today marks 4 MONTHS that I have been sugarless! I tell you what, it was just ONE thing that I set out to do. Just one thing to focus on. And it made a HUGE impact on my life! Stay tuned for my next sugarless update!

So I thought it would be so fun if we all came up with just one thing we wanted to change and then totally went for it in our One Change Challenge. We could start maybe the day after the Super Bowl and go for 7 days. It will be so cool to see what everyone chooses to change and we can all be inspired by one another as well!

What do you think? I am open to suggestions.

Here are just some ideas of things you could choose for your one change…….

  • Quit junky sugar
  • Organize one area in your house and keep it organized for 7 days
  • Eat real food
  • Go vegetarian for a week
  • Go vegan for a week
  • Quit coffee for a week (Nooooooo, booooooo)
  • Get 20 minutes of exercise in for 7 days
  • Gratitude journal every morning
  • Drink your half your weight in ounces of water everyday
  • Read the Bible every morning
  • Pray or meditate at the beginning or end of the day
  • Go to bed at a decent time everyday for 7 days.

Remember, it’s just ONE thing and it’s just ONE week. This will be neat.

It’s the end of the night, but I didn’t want to let the day go by without documenting Day 4 of The Master’s Hammer and Chisel even though it was a rest day. It’s still Day 4 of 60! This post will be short and sweet. ๐Ÿ™‚

Feels good!

Here’s what I ate today. Date night cheat! Date night was LONG overdue.

 

Today was a cheat meal but I will be adding a little more calories to my day from here on out. I was wondering why I was SO HUNGRY after eating according to the calories set for me by My Fitness Pal. Then I realized you have to log your workout in as well. Oh! I had some extra ground turkey last night and felt much better.

My day started out with Chisel ISO strength followed by a MUCH needed trip to the chiropractor. I hadn’t been since the middle of my pregnancy and my 16 pound bundle of joy has been taking her toll on my back! Aaaaaaaah, sweet relief.

Speaking of, I have BOTH my bundles in my lap while writing this very post.

The Master’s Hammer and Chisel: Chisel ISO Strength

It’s all fun and games until you have to hold it….

In this workout you do three sets of ten reps lifting weights but then at the end of each set you hold the exerciseย in the middle of the rep for while. So for example, if you are doing bench step-ups, ย you step up and down 10 times holding a weight. Then on the tenth rep you stay right in the middle of the step-up for an isometric hold. It burns. And it’s a great workout! The workout was 35 minutes. I have to say I am really impressed with the workout that you get in the short amount of time! I really feel like I might have left the gym! I did not work up as much of a sweat during this one but I know that I did something because of how much it burned.

So another good one in the books!

About the food, spoiler alert: it’s not sexy and it’s not going to be sexy. In fact, it’s very plain. When I first started blogging, I tried to come up with all these fancy healthy meals to share but I stopped doing that. This blog is the documentation of how I live a fit life. I try to be as real as I can with you all and the truth is that I’m just not into fancy food. Sure, I love to eat. But I don’t need a lot going on in my food to enjoy it. I really like the taste of plain yogurt and chicken, and fruit is like dessert. I love sea salt but I don’t like Mrs. Dash and all that stuff ย because my breath smells like it for hours after I eat it. So I enjoy plain food and that’s ok! We are all different and that’s what makes you you and me me. My niece said that to me when she was little and I have never forgotten it haha, it’s perfect!

That being said, I do love to share food and beverages that I find to be fabulous. Like this cashew milk latte I made today!

So good!!! Oddly, the cashew milk doesn’t foam like almond milk does but it makes for a tastier drink in my opinion.

Which is actually the program’s Day 1, but it’s my Day 2 because I don’t read directions haha.

The Master’s Hammer and Chisel : Hammer Plyometrics

Ok first, the Hammer workouts are taught by this guy……

He has a really thick accent and it’s like having Arnold Schwarzenegger as your fitness instructor. I was actually wondering how this plyometric workout was going to be because he is so big and muscly. I couldn’t imagine how he was going to jump around all over the place! But he sure did, and it was the coolest plyo workout because it mixed the plyo moves with weights. So for example you would do a burpee followed by a pull-up! I used bands instead of a pull up bar because 1) I don’t have a pull up bar and 2) I can’t do a pull-up! Even so, I got a GREAT workout. I was breathing so hard at some points I couldn’t catch my breath and had to wait to begin the next exercise. But I really like these workouts so far. They are so different! It’s very cool and the time flies by because you are constantly going from one thing to the next. This workout was short but definitely not so sweet. It was only 27 minutes but I was dripping at the end!
