How To Be Still

How To Be Still

Happy Sunday Peaches!

The only thing better than the Lord teaching you things is the Lord sending you a friend who He is teaching the same things to at the same time. Caren from Caren’s Corner is that friend for me. We are both in a season where God is teaching us what it means to be still. Today I want to share a little of what God has been teaching me on being still for any of you that may be in this season as well. Psalm 46-10 (3)

Are you in a season where God is without a doubt telling you to be still? Well, you are not alone and you are also not alone if you are thinking to yourself “How do I even do that?”

I thought the same thing. Let me share what I have learned…

1) We Have To Understand What Is Really Going On

The truth is that God is the vine and we are the branches. Not the other way around. God is the one that does all the good and He gives us the honor of being His vessels. If we are telling ourselves that we are setting out to do the will of God, we cannot be surprised when He actually begins to use us to do exactly that! But that is the thing, we have to understand the HE is using US to do HIS will. We are not using Him to do ours. So if we consider ourselves a Christian we must understand Romans 12:1.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1

We must sacrifice ourselves daily to Him who sacrificed His son for us!

Caren did a great church before church on this. If you are on Facebook, you can watch it here!

2) “Being Still” Means to Stop Striving

I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. 1 Corinthians 3:6

God does all the work. God is the vine, we are the branches. It’s not the other way around!

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5

We have to remember that God is using us for one reason, to accomplish HIS purpose. This is easy for Him to do. It is hard for us to do. In fact, the only way way will accomplish His will is when He does it though us. So, God tells us to quit striving and know that He is God for our own good. Why? Because if we add anything to what He is doing through us, we will only tire ourselves out because it has nothing to do with His purpose. The purpose which HE is doing through us. Us, we are doing nothing. Let that sink in. We in our culture of go go go and do do do have to let this really sink in. God is doing it all. We are doing nothing. Nothing. And that is good.

3) Be Obedient With What Is In Front of You

Exodus 14-14

I know what you are thinking. But I can’t just sit around and do nothing. I have things to do! Yes you do. You have SO many things to do. How many of those things did God put in front of you? Think about that, PRAY about that. Then set out to do only those things God has put in front of you to do knowing that God will do them through you (Exodus 14:14 above). This may mean stripping some things out of your life that shouldn’t really be there. In fact, it probably does. Be still at the Lord’s feet. Don’t rush this time. Read His word, pray to Him. Ask what are the things in your life that are accomplishing His purpose and what are the things that are just the wrong yoke.

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:30

4) This “Season” is Forever. Welcome To Your New Normal

I hear all the time people saying that they are in the season of God telling them to be still. I have said this too and just said it above in this very post. But what I have realized now is that if God has in his extraordinary grace and mercy released us from the bondage of sin, we are now slaves to Him.

You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
Romans 6:8

So this season of being still is forever. How amazing is that? God has not only saved us from death and made us alive in Christ but let’s us take His easy yoke and be a vessel for His glory daily.

It can all be summed up in Luke 9:23.

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

If God has lead you to a place where you are to “be still”. Be thankful! He has loved you enough to bring you this place! And next, rest at His feet, read his living word, and pray for the good works that He has prepared in advance for you to do.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

Be encouraged!

Blessings,
Angela

The Truth Comes Out

The Truth Comes Out

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

Hi Peaches!

I hope you are having a great holiday season so far! We are having a blast and yesterday, the Teal House became seven with this new little guy.

We named him Asher because his nose looks like he rubbed it in ash. He is the sweetest pup and loves playing with the kids and our beloved 135 pound Anatolian Shepherd Cody.

This Christmas season, I just have so much to be thankful for. Not only for sweet things like little Asher but believe it or not, for this rollercoaster of a year. Looking back, I know what has been going on.

This third I will put into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, ‘They are my people,’ and they will say, ‘The LORD is our God.'” Zechariah 13:9

I was being refined. When this happens, God turns up the heat in your life and it is uncomfortable. But I am so thankful for this because as this verse above states, God says this happens to “My people” and for that I am honored.

In being refined, God reveals to you things about yourself that you didn’t know. The truth comes out. Things that I thought were true about myself were not. They were actually things that I thought were passions but in fact were things that I had actually made a part of my identity out of pride and fear. Does that make sense?

In my last post Remember Your Prayers, The Just Might Be Answered, I listed the verses that I had prayed to God at the beginning of the year and why I had chosen those to pray. The last post was discussing that although I felt blindsided by postpartum depression and was so confused at the time, God was actually bringing me into His word and answering my prayer to let me absorb it!

I have been open about praying for years to be this mystical Proverbs 31 woman. I have just always been in such awe of her. I see now see that God is in fact answering my prayers to this as well. This year, by refining me and revealing what He knew about me and I was blind to see, I realized that what I thought was a passion for health and fitness was actually not a passion, but in fact leftover bondage from my past eating disorders and abusive first marriage which I discussed in these posts…

Discipline Training   Part 1

Discipline Training (Part 2) Part 1

Discipline Training (Part 2) Part 2

If you read these posts you know that God has brought me through so much. But as Philippians 1:6 saysHe isn’t going to leave me half finished! He is going to bring me to completion. I thought that being a fitness coach was my calling but He knew that it was bondage. Him revealing this has not only brought me closer to the Lord but has brought indescribable peace and joy! Peace in knowing that He’s got me in His hands and that even when I don’t what is right, He does! And so much joy in this verse….

Ephesians 2-10

How amazing is that? He has prepared GOOD WORKS in advance for us to do! So not only did He know me better than I know myself but he has good works in store for my future. I just find that so comforting.

So now it is fun getting used to the new normal. Just being still and waiting on God to tell me what’s next. Is anyone doing this as well? I have found it to be so fun. When I quit looking to the future all the time it’s amazing the treasures that were right in front of me this whole time to be enjoy. I would love to hear your story of when you stopped striving and were able to be still. Just being awed by His word, being thankful for the day, and thriving with what He has put into my hands.

Praise be to Jesus who was, and is, and is to come!

Blessings,
Angela

His Sheep Hear His Voice

His Sheep Hear His Voice

John 1027

Good Morning!

A while back, after I returned from the wedding, I explained how The Keen Peach is changing. The reason for this is because I have had so many revelations this year. I explained a little about this in my last post, Remember You Prayers, They Just Might Be Answered. I want to share some of these revelations because while I know of absolutely no one in my life questioning these things, maybe there is someone out there who is asking the same questions that I was this past year.

One question that I had this year was if I was actually hearing God.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27.

I know I am not alone in experiencing strong feelings about things. Even intense feelings sometimes leading me to follow them. Many call this intuition. Many call God. Is this God? Is this myself? How do I know? I am a Christian because I believe the Lord Jesus Christ died on a cross for my sins and was raised again on the third day. The Bible says that because I believe this, I have the Holy Spirit inside me, this I also believe. But I also know that both Christians and Non-Christians have these strong feelings of intuition. Everyone has had that experience of walking into a room and feeling that it was not the right place to be. Or following your gut on an important decision. So how do I know if I am hearing God’s voice or if this is intuition or if it’s nothing to pay attention to at all? Is there a different voice of intuition for believers than for non believers? I especially struggled with this during the worst of my postpartum depression (I call it depression but it was actually depression/anxiety/ocd). The thoughts and feelings I was experiencing were so strong and so intense. How could they not be God telling me something? When I told others about my struggle, I had John 10:27 quoted to me so many times. This was discouraging. Why could I not be sure if I was hearing God or not? What was wrong with me? Was I not a sheep? And why were others so sure that they were hearing His voice?

I still cannot speak for others but the answer finally came to me when I read the rest of John 10. In John 10: 1-5, Jesus is telling the Pharisees the He is the Shepherd and his followers are his sheep. But John 10:6 says that the Pharisees did not unsterstand what he was telling them.

“Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them.

Then in verses 22-24, the Pharisees ask him to just tell them plainly if he is the Messiah. He responds to them in verses 25-30.

Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”

And there it was.

You cannot hear his His voice unless you are a sheep! Hearing His voice is believingThe Pharisees were not sheep because they did not believe. They could not believe because they were not His sheep. If you believe, you are a sheep and have heard His voice.

Believers, you are sheep and you have heard Him!

I hope this encourages anyone who loves the Lord and is wondering why they are not having an encounter of an audible voice or a feeling so strong that your decision that you have been praying about is made without any doubts. But if you would like a miraculous experience, open your Bible and ask God to have the Holy Spirit illuminate His living and active word. You will not only experience His voice speaking to you through the written word of God, but you will be changed forever as it penetrates your heart and fills your soul in a way that you will know without a doubt was Christ alive and active in you.

Blessings,
Angela
